The Importance of Self Awareness

In our last email, we talked about the Awareness Wheel. To recap, the Awareness Wheel is just a process that we go through each time we experience something. We are fed with sensory input or data from the surrounding, then this information is processed in our mind resulting in certain automatic thoughts that lead to associated feelings and desires, resulting in our actions or behaviors.
Most of the time, we experience this process unconsciously. Our goal is to make this a conscious process for us so that we can then recognize our thoughts, feelings and desires. In this way, we will begin to understand our own motivations and behaviors. Once we know that, we are at greater liberty to make the necessary changes in our life.
In contrast, as long as we are unconscious about this process, we will continue to become the victim of our mental habits. Without understanding how our automatic thoughts are generated and the associated feelings and desires that they brought up in us, we are likely to react to situations and people in our present default mode.
So, if we want to change our life, we must increase our own self awareness. "know thyself", said Socrates, and that is our goal here.
